Retired Chief Harry Earle will present on: “Violence Prevention and Risk Considerations for Police Officers and Mental Health Professionals” – Police Officers and mental health professionals face unique challenges in managing crisis-related incidents. Officers and mental health professionals must take the necessary steps to achieve a working knowledge of the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2018, changes to New Jersey’s Police Use of Force Policy, and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline. Specific case studies will be discussed where the opportunities to prevent acts of targeted violence were missed. Participants will also be encouraged to embrace training they have received in dealing with mental health consumers as a commitment to their profession of helping others.
TARGET AUDIENCE Any law enforcement officer who may respond to incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis. This course is also recommended for Chiefs of Police, Supervisors, and mental health professionals working with police agencies.
